Diet/Food Therapy for Healthy Hair

Foods choices for healthy hair

Dark Green Vegetables
Popeye the Sailor Man didn't eat all that spinach for healthy hair, but he could have. Spinach, like broccoli and Swiss chard, is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, which your body needs to produce sebum. The oily substance, secreted by your hair follicles, is the body's natural hair conditioner.

Eggs
When it comes to healthy hair, it doesn't matter whether you like your eggs scrambled, fried, or over easy. However they're served up, eggs are one of the best protein sources you can find.
They also contain biotin and vitamin B-12, which are important beauty nutrients

Dairy Products
Low-fat dairy products like skim milk and yogurt are great sources of calcium, an important mineral for hair growth. They also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources.

For some healthy hair foods "to-go," try throwing a yogurt or cottage cheese cup in your bag when you head out in the morning to snack on later in the day. You can even boost their hair benefits by stirring in a couple of tablespoons of ground flaxseeds or walnuts for omega-3 fatty acids and zinc.

Beans
Legumes like kidney beans and lentils should be an important part of your hair-care diet. Not only do they provide plentiful protein to promote hair growth, but ample iron, zinc, and biotin. While rare, biotin deficiencies can result in brittle hair. Vitamin E is important for healthy hair growth. Eat avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil on a regular basis.

Carrots
Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, which promotes a healthy scalp along with good vision.

Since a healthy scalp is essential for a shiny, well-conditioned head of hair, you'd be wise to include carrots in your diet as snacks or toppings on your salad.

  • Adding coconut in various forms in diet like coconut oil, chutney and milk is very useful preventing hair loss. High fat, meat based diet raises testosterone hormonal levels in males and that badly affect hair follicles. A person who is anemic is prone to have this problem so including iron-rich foods like beetroots, eggs, dates and raisins may help.
  • The diet rich in silica, iron and calcium may help in this situation. It prevents hair from falling. This may include green and leafy vegetables, raw oats, dried fruits, cherry juice and beets are good for the same.
  • Certain foods are to be included like brown rice, oats, root vegetables like carrots, gingers and onions. Winter squash, black beans, pumpkin, black pepper, beans are beneficial. Whole grains, nuts and seeds and green vegetables are indeed helpful.
1.Wash your hair every alternate day or even daily if necessary.
    2. Get your hair trimmed at least once in every six weeks. This will prevent split ends as well as keep your haircut in style.
    3. Get an oil massage at least once a week followed by steaming your hair with wet towel. This will help in moisturizing the hair.
    4. Change your shampoo and conditioner after every two months. This would help in preventing the deposition of chemicals from continuous use of one particular type of shampoo.
    5. Brush your hair regularly in each direction from left to right, right to left, front to back and back to front. This will keep the hair lustrous and healthy.

  2. Don’t comb or brush your hair when wet, it will only lead to breakage. Use a brush with wide teeth to untangle your hair after shampoo.
  3. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. This can damage the texture, making it frizzy.
  4. Avoid taking stress as it can be really harmful for the long-term health of the hair.
Together with these tips, focus on good, nutrition-based diet and cut down on the over-consumption of salt, alcohol, and tobacco. Also, undertake moderate exercise every day; it would significantly help improve blood circulation in your scalp.
